What You Can’t See: All About Clear Braces for Adults

Have you been looking into straightening your teeth as an adult?

Not everyone had the ability to get braces as a child, whether it was due to finances or dental health. Some people did have braces as children, but they neglected their retainers as many children do. This caused their teeth to shift back into misalignment!

If any of these situations sound like you, we know how you feel. You want to get straighter teeth, but you don’t want to deal with the metal and wires of your childhood. They just don’t work with adult lifestyles.

Clear braces for adults might be the answer for you. These clear aligners are tried and true, proven to work on most orthodontic cases, and almost invisible. They can be quicker or equivalent to metal braces, and they can be cost-effective with payment plans.

Does this sound good? Keep reading to learn more.

What Are Clear Aligners?

Clear aligners are like invisible braces. While some braces claim to be invisible braces, they’re made of ceramic or have white coatings. You can still see the wires and brackets from a close distance.

For many people, this is okay. Others, though, want the security of completely invisible aligners so that the only people who know that they have braces in are the ones that they’re close to.

This is where brands of clear aligners like Invisalign come in.

These aligners are made for your teeth. After a scan or a mold, your doctor will send your information to Invisalign so that specialists can make your trays. These trays will be switched either weekly or biweekly until your teeth are as straight as you’d like them to be.

Clear aligners are the best solution for adults looking to straighten their teeth without worrying about the interruption to their life that traditional metal braces can present.

Why Invisalign?

There are plenty of clear aligners on the market, but none of them quite match up with Invisalign’s technology

Many of these aligner systems use technology that Invisalign used to use, meaning that the advancements that Invisalign has made won’t be offered to you. There are other reliable orthodontic clear aligners that are offered by professionals, but because Invisalign has been in the business for the longest period of time, they’re the most trustworthy.

Clear aligners are great because you can take them out to eat, meaning no more struggling to remove food from wires. You just brush afterward and pop them right back in.

They’re invisible in photos and while they will give you some soreness at first, they’re not as uncomfortable as metal braces.

There are also plenty of shady companies that try to do cheap telehealth orthodontia, where you never interact with a dentist or orthodontist.

While these options might seem great to people trying to save money, they don’t end well and they’re unsafe for your teeth. They also can’t fix issues with bite or any serious alignment problems. Having a qualified dental professional to walk you through the process is crucial.

You only get one set of teeth. Treat them to Invisalign!

What Can Clear Braces for Adults Fix?

These clear aligners have progressed a lot over the years. Originally, they were best for simple problems, like slight misalignments and spacing issues.

Now, though, clear aligners can fix a plethora of orthodontic problems. They can fix many bite issues. They can handle immense crowding and spacing. They’re able to fix almost anything that traditional braces can fix.

With the introduction of rubber bands and buttons, they work similarly to traditional braces without the appearance of them.

That said, not everyone is a candidate. It’s important to see your orthodontist so that they can give you a checkup and see if you qualify for Invisalign.

Some dental professionals will require that you get some teeth removed in order for the aligners to work correctly. These may be wisdom teeth, but they may also be teeth that are in or near the front. The teeth will align into a beautiful smile afterward, so trust your orthodontist.

Others will shave your teeth down so that the process can work correctly. Every orthodontist is different and it’s okay to shop around for different opinions.

How Can I Find a Provider?

There are Invisalign providers all over. You probably have more than one in your own town! That said, not all Invisalign providers are the same.

It’s best to find a provider that’s an orthodontist. While dentists can learn how Invisalign works and they can become certified to apply it, orthodontists have spent the time in school and training to understand how the teeth and jaw work when it comes to alignment both for aesthetics and for function.

Some providers have more Invisalign experience than others. When you’re making your choice, look at the Invisalign provider level that they have on display. Many orthodontists are happy to show this off, especially if it’s good!

You’re looking for providers who have platinum or higher. The highest provider level is Diamond+. This means that this provider has plenty of experience with all kinds of orthodontic cases and you’re in safe hands.
